Jonah 2
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish.1Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish,
2He said, “I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and LORD, you heard me!2saying, “I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
3You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. The mighty waters engulfed me; I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves.3For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.
4Then I said, ‘O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. Yet I will look once more toward your holy Temple.’4Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’
5“I sank beneath the waves, and the waters closed over me. Seaweed wrapped itself around my head.5The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head
6I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O LORD my God, snatched me from the jaws of death!6at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.
7As my life was slipping away, I remembered the LORD. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.7When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
8Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God’s mercies.8Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.
9But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the LORD alone.”9But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the LORD!”
10Then the LORD ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.10And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
