1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become <i>as</i> sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. If I speak with the tongues of mankind and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I have <i>the gift of</i> prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. If I have <i>the gift of</i> prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed <i>the poor</i>, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. And if I give away all my possessions <i>to charity,</i> and if I surrender my body so that I may glory, but do not have love, it does me no good. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant Charity suffereth long, <i>and</i> is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own <i>benefit;</i> it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong <i>suffered,</i> It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. Charity never faileth: but whether <i>there be</i> prophecies, they shall fail; whether <i>there be</i> tongues, they shall cease; whether <i>there be</i> knowledge, it shall vanish away. Love never fails; but if <i>there are gifts of</i> prophecy, they will be done away with; if <i>there are</i> tongues, they will cease; if <i>there is</i> knowledge, it will be done away with. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

10 but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away. but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12 Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I also have been fully known. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these <i>is</i> charity. But now faith, hope, <i>and</i> love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
