2 who devise evil in their hearts and stir up war all day long. who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. Which imagine mischiefs in <i>their</i> heart; continually are they gathered together <i>for</i> war. 3 They sharpen their tongues like snakes; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Selah They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s, and under their lips is the venom of asps. 4 Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked. Keep me safe from men of violence who scheme to make me stumble. Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have planned to trip up my feet. Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. Keep me, LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Protect me from violent men Who intend to trip up my feet. 5 The proud hide a snare for me; the cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me. I said unto the LORD, Thou <i>art</i> my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. I said to the LORD, “You are my God; Listen, LORD, to the sound of my pleadings. 7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You shield my head in the day of battle. O LORD, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle. “GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head on the day of battle. Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.
8 Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not promote their evil plans, lest they be exalted. Selah Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not further their evil plot, or they will be exalted! Selah Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; <i>lest</i> they exalt themselves. Selah. “Do not grant, LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not bring about his evil planning, <i>so that</i> they <i>are not</i> exalted. Selah Do not grant the wicked their desires, LORD; do not let their plans succeed.
9 May the heads of those who surround me be covered in the trouble their lips have caused. As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them! <i>As for</i> the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. “As for the head of those who surround me, May the harm of their lips cover them. Those who surround me proudly rear their heads; may the mischief of their lips engulf them.
10 May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the miry pits, never to rise again. Let burning coals fall upon them! Let them be cast into fire, into miry pits, no more to rise! Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. “May burning coals fall upon them; May they be cast into the fire, Into bottomless pits from which they cannot rise. 11 May no slanderer be established in the land; may calamity hunt down the man of violence. Let not the slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt down the violent man speedily! Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow <i>him</i>. “May a slanderer not endure on the earth; May evil hunt a violent person violently.” May slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down the violent.
12 I know that the LORD upholds justice for the poor and defends the cause of the needy. I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy. I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, <i>and</i> the right of the poor. I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise Your name; the upright will dwell in Your presence. Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall dwell in your presence. Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence. Certainly the righteous will give thanks to Your name; The upright will dwell in Your presence. Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence.
