The king responded to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar,

Daniel, whose name means “God is my judge,” served in the Babylonian court under the name Belteshazzar, likely meaning “Bel, protect his life,” assigned to him after his captivity from Judah. Though trained in Babylonian learning and given a name connected with Babylon’s religion, he remained faithful to the God of Israel. His presence before Nebuchadnezzar reveals God’s providence in placing His servant within the empire’s highest court.

“Are you able to tell me what I saw in the dream, as well as its interpretation?”

Nebuchadnezzar demanded what his own wise men could not provide: the dream itself and its meaning. The request exposed the limits of Babylon’s magicians, enchanters, and astrologers. Daniel’s answer would show that the true God alone reveals hidden things and rules over kings and kingdoms.
