Numbers 21:21–35 records how the Lord gave Sihon’s land from the Arnon to the Jabbok and Og’s kingdom in Bashan into Israel’s hand. These victories fulfilled God’s promise to give His people an inheritance and displayed His power before they crossed into Canaan. The conquered territory became an enduring witness that the Lord had gone before Israel and had begun to give them the land He promised. Num 21:24-25 And Israel put him to the sword and took possession… the two Amorite kings Sihon ruled from Heshbon over the territory south of Gilead, while Og ruled the northern region of Bashan from Ashtaroth and Edrei. Og’s kingdom was especially formidable, with fortified cities and fertile pasturelands. Their defeat showed that no military strength, fortified city, or established ruler could withstand the God of Israel. Psalm 135:10–12 later praises the Lord for striking these kings and giving their land as an inheritance to His people. God’s faithfulness on the eastern side of the river strengthened Israel for the greater conquest still before them.
