I have not spoken in secret, from a place in a land of darkness.

The LORD made His purposes known through His acts in history, His covenant with Israel, and the words of His prophets. Unlike idols, whose worship often depended on hidden rituals and human speculation, the God who created the heavens speaks openly and authoritatively. Darkness represents ignorance and spiritual blindness, while God’s revelation gives light for faith and obedience. The revealed things belong to God’s people so that they may follow Him (Deuteronomy 29:29). Jesus Christ fulfills this divine self-disclosure as the Light of the world (John 8:12).

I did not say to the descendants of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a wasteland.’

God did not call Israel to pursue an empty hope. He had pledged Himself to Jacob and his descendants, promising His presence, protection, and covenant faithfulness (Genesis 28:13–15). Seeking the LORD is fruitful because He hears those who turn to Him in faith and submission. The invitation also anticipates God’s call for the nations to look to Him and be saved (Isaiah 45:22). Jesus likewise assures His disciples that those who ask, seek, and knock will receive an answer from their Father (Matthew 7:7–8).

I, the LORD, speak the truth; I say what is right.

God’s words are wholly reliable because His character is righteous and unchanging. His judgments expose the emptiness of idols, establish the certainty of His promises, and provide the standard for human conduct. He rules the world with righteousness (Psalm 9:8), and His truth reaches its fullest revelation in Jesus Christ, who is Himself the truth (John 14:6).
