Their limited numbers made them vulnerable, yet God had promised Abraham that He would make of him a great nation. Israel’s existence therefore rested not on human strength or political security, but on the covenant faithfulness of God. He protected the patriarchal family through famine, conflict, barrenness, and exile, keeping alive the line through which He would fulfill His promises. The nation that later came out of Egypt in great numbers bore witness that God had multiplied what appeared insignificant. Gen 34:30 Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought… and strangers in the land, Though Canaan had been promised to Abraham and his descendants, the patriarchs lived there as resident aliens, dwelling in tents and possessing little more than burial ground. Their unsettled life taught them to await God’s inheritance rather than seize it by human means. His faithfulness to Abraham and his descendants assures us of His faithfulness to us. The Power of Obedience Abraham's obedience to God's call, despite being few and strangers, is a model for us. Obedience to God can lead to blessings beyond our imagination.
