Berean Literal Bible
Jesus Teaches at the Feast
1And after these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee; for He did not desire to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him. 2Now the feast of the Jews, that of Booths, was near. 3Therefore His brothers said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples will also see Your works that You are doing. 4For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be in public. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” 5For not even His brothers were believing in Him.
6Therefore Jesus says to them, “My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7The world is not able to hate you; but it hates Me, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil. 8You go up to the feast. I am nota going up to this feast, for My time has not yet been fulfilled.”
But others were saying, “No, but He deceives the people.”
13But no one was speaking publicly about Him, because of the fear of the Jews.
16Therefore Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not of Myself, but of the One having sent Me. 17If anyone desires to do His will, he will know concerning the teaching, whether it is from God, or I speak from Myself. 18The one speaking from himself seeks the own glory, but the One seeking the glory of the One having sent Him, He is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.
19Has not Moses given to you the Law, and none of you keeps the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”
20The crowd answered, “You have a demon. Who seeks to kill You?”
21Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel. 22Because of the fact that Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers) also on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. 23If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses might not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man entirely sound on the Sabbath? 24Do not judge according to appearance, but judge the righteous judgment.”
Is Jesus the Christ?
25Therefore some of those of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this not whom they seek to kill? 26And behold, He speaks publicly, and they say nothing ever to Him. Have the rulers truly recognized that this is the Christ? 27But we know this man, where He is from. But the Christ, whenever He may come, no one knows where He is from.”
28Therefore Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You know Me and you know where I am from. And I have not come of Myself, but the One having sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29But I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”
30Therefore they were seeking to take Him, but no one laid the hand upon Him, because His hour had not yet come. 31Yet many out of the crowd believed in Him and were saying, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than this man has done?”
32The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers, that they might seize Him. 33Therefore Jesus said, “Yet a little time I am with you, and I go to the One having sent Me. 34You will seek Me and will not find Me; and where I am, you are not able to come.”
35Therefore the Jews said among themselves, “Where is He about to go that we will not find Him? Is He about to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and to teach the Greeks? 36What is this word that He said, ‘You will seek Me, and will not find Me,’ and ‘Where I am you are not able to come’?”
37Now in the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38The one believing in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘Out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.’” 39Now He said this concerning the Spirit, whom those having believed in Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Division Regarding Jesus
40Therefore having heard these words, some of the people were saying, “This is truly the Prophet.”
41Others were saying, “This is the Christ.”
But others were saying, “Surely the Christ does not come out of Galilee? 42Has not the Scripture said that Christ comes out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
Unbelief of the Jewish Leaders
45Therefore the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
46The officers answered, “Never has a man spoken like this, as this man speaks.”
53And each went to his home.
