In You My Soul Takes Refuge
(1 Samuel 22:1–5; Psalm 108:1–13; Psalm 142:1–7)

1For the one directing. To “Do not Destroy.” Of David. A Miktam in his fleeing from the face of Saul in the cave.

1 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me!

For in You my soul seeks refuge,

and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,

until the calamities have passed by.

2I will call out to El-Elyon,

to God, who fulfills for me.

3He sends forth from the heavens, and saves me;

He rebukes the one panting after me.

Selah

God sends forth

His loving devotion and His faithfulness.

4My soul is among the lions;

I lie down among flames—

the sons of men, their teeth are spears and arrows,

and their tongue is a sharp sword.

5Be exalted above the heavens, O God,

Your glory above all the earth!

6They have prepared a net for my steps;

my soul is bent down;

they have dug before me a pit—

may they fall into its midst!

Selah

7my heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;

I will sing and make music.

8Awake, my glory!

Awake, O harp and lyre—

I will awaken the dawn!

9I will confess You among the peoples, O Lord;

I will make music to You among the nations.

10For Your loving devotion reaches to the heavens,

and Your faithfulness to the clouds.

11Be lifted high above the heavens, O God,

and above all the earth Your glory!

Footnotes:

1 Miktam is probably a musical or liturgical term; used for Psalms 16 and 56–60.
2 El-Elyon means God Most High
8 Or Awake, my soul!
