Psalm 75
God’s Righteous Judgment
The Sovereignty of God and His Righteous Judgment

Psalm 75 is a powerful reassurance of God's sovereign authority and divine justice. Despite the turmoil we may witness in the world, God holds the pillars of the earth firm. He will cut down the wicked and exalt the righteous. Therefore, let us be humble, praise Him and place our trust in His righteous judgement.

Section: Introduction (Verses 1-2)

The Psalmist begins by expressing thankfulness to God, acknowledging His wondrous deeds. He states that when God selects a time, He will judge with fairness.

Section: God's Sovereignty (Verses 3-5)

In these verses, the earth and its inhabitants are depicted as unstable, but God holds its pillars firm. The Psalmist relays God's words to the boastful and wicked, instructing them to not boast or lift their horns against heaven.

Section: Judgement Belongs to God (Verses 6-8)

The Psalmist reminds that exaltation comes neither from the east, the west, nor the south, but God is the judge. He lowers one and lifts another. He describes God's wrath as a cup of wine, full of mixture, that the wicked of the earth will drink.

Section: A Proclamation of Forever Praise (Verses 9-10)

The Psalmist declares that he will praise God forever and will sing praises to the God of Jacob. He prophesies the cutting off of all the horns of the wicked while the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.

Psalm 75, attributed to Asaph, a prominent psalmist, explores the themes of God's sovereignty, His judgment, and the proper response to His works. It is a powerful reminder of God's control over all aspects of creation and His ultimate power to exalt or lower beings as per His divine justice. The psalm portrays an unwavering faith in God's righteous judgment, and an earnest call to humility and thankfulness.
