To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song of Asaph.

1In Judah is God renowned; His name is great in Israel. 2In Salem (Jerusalem) also is His tabernacle, and His dwelling place is in Zion (Mount Zion). 3There He broke the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah. 4You are more glorious and excellent than the everlasting mountains rich with game. 5The brave warriors are undone; they have slept the sleep of death, and not one of the men of might could lift his hands against us. 6At the sound of Your reprimand, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse lie stunned and still.

7You, alone, are to be feared; and who may stand before You when once You are angry? 8You pronounced judgment from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, 9When God rose up to judge, and to save all the meek and oppressed of the earth. Selah. 10Surely even the wrath of man shall praise You; the remnant of wrath You shall restrain. 11Make vows, and pay them unto the LORD your God; let all that are around Him bring presents unto Him Who is to be reverenced and feared. 12He shall humble the spirit of princes; He is fearsome to the kings of the earth shall regard Him with awe.

A Psalm of Asaph, during the Babylonian captivity.
