Corinthians 5
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
Fornication (selling off-surrendering of sexual purity, promiscuity of any-every type, porneia, latin-fornicatio, sex between unmarrieds) is actually (wholly, altogether) heard among you and such fornication which is not even among the ethnicities, that someone has his father’s wife. 2And you are puffed up and did not rather mourn (manifested grief over a relationship that dies) that the one having done this work might be taken (removed) from out of the midst (middle) of you.

For though I am absent in body, I am present (near) in spirit; have already come to a judgment, as being present, the one in this way has done this. 4In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are gathered together also my spirit with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5To deliver (give over from close beside, hand over) one of such a kind to Satan for the ruination (this is not extinction/annihilation but rather the loss that goes with undoing) of the flesh that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

Your boasting is not winsomely good (kalon). Do you not know that a little leaven leavens all the lump (mixed mass)? 7Thoroughly purge out (ekkatharate- like catharsis, cleanse out thoroughly) the old leaven so that you may be a new lump (mixture), according to the manner in which you are fully unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has also been sacrificed. 8So that we may keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with leaven of inherent malice (kaka) and pain-ridden maliciousness (poneria- pain-ridden/spreading evil, iniquity), but rather in the unleavened of clearness (rightly judged in the light of the sun/the shining of the sun, rightly judged because seen in full light, pure inner motives, purity, clarity, sincerity) and of truth (true as fact, reality).

I wrote to you in the letter (epistole), not to identify with or be mixed closely together with (associate intimately with, mix closely together with, to be identified with a finished mixed process) the fornicators (pornois), 10And by all means not the fornicators of this world, or with the coveting defrauders (one desirous of having more even trampling on the rights of others) and rapacious extortioners (suddenly snatching/seizing like as a robber, swindler- close to the word for rapture) or idolaters (image worshippers)—since you would be obligated (ought) then to go/come out of (from) the world. 11But now, I wrote to you not to be identified with being mixed together with him, if possibly any brother be given a name that he is a fornicator or a coveting defrauder or an idolator or an abusive reviler (denigrating another’s reputation by abusive insults) or a drunkard or a rapacious extortioner (swindler); with such a one do not even eat with. 12For what is it to me to come to a judgment of those outside? Do you not come to a judgment of those within? 13But those outside God will come to a judgment. Expel (remove, eject) the malicious (poneron-evil) person out from among yourselves.
