So Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave Hebron to him as his portion of land.
The LORD commanded Joshua to assign some of Judah's territory to Caleb son of Jephunneh. So Caleb was given the town of Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), which had been named after Anak's ancestor.
But the open fields beyond the town and the surrounding villages were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.
