Jeremiah 34:8 Parallel
CommentaryJeremiah 34:8 Parallel Commentaries
"If you buy a Hebrew slave, he may serve for no more than six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom.
Set this year apart as holy, a time to proclaim freedom throughout the land for all who live there. It will be a jubilee year for you, when each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors and return to your own clan.
"If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell himself to you, do not treat him as a slave.
2 Kings 11:17
Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD's people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people.
2 Kings 23:2
And the king went up to the Temple of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, along with the priests and the prophets--all the people from the least to the greatest. There the king read to them the entire Book of the Covenant that had been found in the LORD's Temple.
2 Kings 23:3
The king took his place of authority beside the pillar and renewed the covenant in the LORD's presence. He pledged to obey the LORD by keeping all his commands, laws, and decrees with all his heart and soul. In this way, he confirmed all the terms of the covenant that were written in the scroll, and all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.
About this time some of the men and their wives raised a cry of protest against their fellow Jews.
