So I will raise my hand and strike the Egyptians, performing all kinds of miracles among them. Then at last he will let you go.
"Is that so?" retorted Pharaoh. "And who is the LORD? Why should I listen to him and let Israel go? I don't know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go."
But I have spared you for a purpose--to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth.
"But our ancestors were proud and stubborn, and they paid no attention to your commands.
"You warned them to return to your Law, but they became proud and obstinate and disobeyed your commands. They did not follow your regulations, by which people will find life if only they obey. They stubbornly turned their backs on you and refused to listen.
"O Lord our God, you brought lasting honor to your name by rescuing your people from Egypt in a great display of power. But we have sinned and are full of wickedness.
