Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;
For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;
So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.
For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.7For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation.8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.
For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.9For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.11Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work diligently among you, who preside over you in the Lord and give you instruction.12But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,
In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.13and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
And we urge you, brothers, to admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.14We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.15See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
Rejoice at all times.16Rejoice always;
Pray without ceasing.17pray without ceasing;
Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.18in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not extinguish the Spirit.19Do not quench the Spirit;
Do not treat prophecies with contempt,20do not despise prophetic utterances.
but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.21But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;
Abstain from every form of evil.22abstain from every form of evil.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.24Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
Brothers, pray for us as well.25Brethren, pray for us.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.26Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.27I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
