How beautiful you are, my darling—how very beautiful! Your eyes are like doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down Mount Gilead.1"How beautiful you are, my darling, How beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves behind your veil; Your hair is like a flock of goats That have descended from Mount Gilead.
Your teeth are like a flock of newly shorn sheep coming up from the washing; each has its twin, and not one of them is lost.2"Your teeth are like a flock of newly shorn ewes Which have come up from their washing, All of which bear twins, And not one among them has lost her young.
Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon, and your mouth is lovely. Your brow behind your veil is like a slice of pomegranate.3"Your lips are like a scarlet thread, And your mouth is lovely. Your temples are like a slice of a pomegranate Behind your veil.
Your neck is like the tower of David, built with rows of stones; on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.4"Your neck is like the tower of David, Built with rows of stones On which are hung a thousand shields, All the round shields of the mighty men.
Your breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle grazing among the lilies.5"Your two breasts are like two fawns, Twins of a gazelle Which feed among the lilies.
Before the day breaks and the shadows flee, I will make my way to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.6"Until the cool of the day When the shadows flee away, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh And to the hill of frankincense.
You are altogether beautiful, my darling; in you there is no flaw.7"You are altogether beautiful, my darling, And there is no blemish in you.
Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon! Descend from the peak of Amana, from the summits of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of the lions, from the mountains of the leopards.8"Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, May you come with me from Lebanon. Journey down from the summit of Amana, From the summit of Senir and Hermon, From the dens of lions, From the mountains of leopards.
You have captured my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your neck.9"You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride; You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes, With a single strand of your necklace.
How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! Your love is much better than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than all spices.10"How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, And the fragrance of your oils Than all kinds of spices!
Your lips, my bride, drip sweetness like the honeycomb; honey and milk are under your tongue, and the fragrance of your garments is like the aroma of Lebanon.11"Your lips, my bride, drip honey; Honey and milk are under your tongue, And the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.
My sister, my bride, you are a garden locked up, a spring enclosed, a fountain sealed.12"A garden locked is my sister, my bride, A rock garden locked, a spring sealed up.
Your branches are an orchard of pomegranates with the choicest of fruits, with henna and nard,13"Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates With choice fruits, henna with nard plants,
with nard and saffron, with calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of frankincense tree, with myrrh and aloes, with all the finest spices.14Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, With all the trees of frankincense, Myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices.
You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water flowing down from Lebanon.15"You are a garden spring, A well of fresh water, And streams flowing from Lebanon."
Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind. Breathe on my garden and spread the fragrance of its spices. Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choicest fruits.16"Awake, O north wind, And come, wind of the south; Make my garden breathe out fragrance, Let its spices be wafted abroad. May my beloved come into his garden And eat its choice fruits!"
