You shall therefore love the LORD your God and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.1You must love the LORD your God and do what he requires; keep his statutes, ordinances, and commandments at all times.
Know this day that it is not your children who have known and seen the discipline of the LORD your God: His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm;2Bear in mind today that I am not speaking to your children who have not personally experienced the judgments of the LORD your God, which revealed his greatness, strength, and power.
the signs and works He did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land;3They did not see the awesome deeds he performed in the midst of Egypt against Pharaoh king of Egypt and his whole land,
what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea engulf them as they pursued you, and how He destroyed them completely, even to this day;4or what he did to the army of Egypt, including their horses and chariots, when he made the waters of the Red Sea overwhelm them while they were pursuing you and he annihilated them.
what He did for you in the wilderness until you reached this place;5They did not see what he did to you in the desert before you reached this place,
and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.6or what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth in the middle of the Israelite camp and swallowed them, their families, their tents, and all the property they brought with them.
For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.7I am speaking to you because you are the ones who saw all the great deeds of the LORD!
You shall therefore keep every commandment I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and possess the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,8Now pay attention to all the commandments I am giving you today, so that you may be strong enough to enter and possess the land where you are headed,
and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.9and that you may enjoy long life in the land the LORD promised to give to your ancestors and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.
For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated on foot, like a vegetable garden.10For the land where you are headed is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, a land where you planted seed and which you irrigated by hand like a vegetable garden.
But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.11Instead, the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy is one of hills and valleys, a land that drinks in water from the rains,
It is a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning to the end of the year.12a land the LORD your God looks after. He is constantly attentive to it from the beginning to the end of the year.
So if you carefully obey the commandments I am giving you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,13Now, if you pay close attention to my commandments that I am giving you today and love the LORD your God and serve him with all your mind and being,
then I will provide rain for your land in season, the autumn and spring rains, that you may gather your grain, new wine, and oil.14then he promises, "I will send rain for your land in its season, the autumn and the spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine, and olive oil.
And I will provide grass in the fields for your livestock, and you will eat and be satisfied.15I will provide pasture for your livestock and you will eat your fill."
But be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside to worship and bow down to other gods,16Make sure you do not turn away to serve and worship other gods!
or the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.17Then the anger of the LORD will erupt against you and he will close up the sky so that it does not rain. The land will not yield its produce, and you will soon be removed from the good land that the Lord is about to give you.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.18Fix these words of mine into your mind and being, and tie them as a reminder on your hands and let them be symbols on your forehead.
Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.19Teach them to your children and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you get up.
Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,20Inscribe them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates
so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to give your fathers.21so that your days and those of your descendants may be extended in the land which the LORD promised to give to your ancestors, like the days of heaven itself.
For if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—22For if you carefully observe all of these commandments I am giving you and love the LORD your God, live according to his standards, and remain loyal to him,
then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.23then he will drive out all these nations ahead of you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.
Every place where the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea.24Every place you set your foot will be yours; your border will extend from the desert to Lebanon and from the River (that is, the Euphrates) as far as the Mediterranean Sea.
No man will be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the fear and dread of you upon all the land, wherever you set foot, as He has promised you.25Nobody will be able to resist you; the LORD your God will spread the fear and terror of you over the whole land on which you walk, just as he promised you.
See, today I am setting before you a blessing and a curse—26Take note--I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:
a blessing if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you today,27the blessing if you take to heart the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you today,
but a curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.28and the curse if you pay no attention to his commandments and turn from the way I am setting before you today to pursue other gods you have not known.
When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.29When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are to possess, you must pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
Are not these mountains across the Jordan, west of the road toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the Oak of Moreh?30Are they not across the Jordan River, toward the west, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the oak of Moreh?
For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you. When you take possession of it and settle in it,31For you are about to cross the Jordan to possess the land the LORD your God is giving you, and you will possess and inhabit it.
be careful to follow all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you today.32Be certain to keep all the statutes and ordinances that I am presenting to you today.
