Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.1Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice--alive, holy, and pleasing to God--which is your reasonable service.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.2Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God--what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to the measure of faith God has given you.3For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you a measure of faith.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not all members have the same function,4For just as in one body we have many members, and not all the members serve the same function,
so in Christ we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another.5so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another.
We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith;6And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith.
if it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;7If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach;
if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.8if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness.
Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.9Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good.
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.10Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another.
Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.11Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, persistent in prayer.12Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering, persist in prayer.
Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.13Contribute to the needs of the saints, pursue hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse.14Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.15Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but enjoy the company of the lowly. Do not be conceited.16Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody.17Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people.
If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people.
Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”19Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord.
On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.”20Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
