Proverbs 9
CSB Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Christian Standard BibleKing James Bible
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.1Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
She has prepared her meat; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table.2She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
She has sent out her female servants; she calls out from the highest points of the city:3She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
"Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says,4Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
"Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed.5Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
Leave inexperience behind, and you will live; pursue the way of understanding.6Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
The one who corrects a mocker will bring abuse on himself; the one who rebukes the wicked will get hurt.7He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
Don't rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke the wise, and he will love you.8Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Instruct the wise, and he will be wiser still; teach the righteous, and he will learn more.9Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
For by me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.11For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit; if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences."12If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
Folly is a rowdy woman; she is gullible and knows nothing.13A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
She sits by the doorway of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,14For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
calling to those who pass by, who go straight ahead on their paths:15To call passengers who go right on their ways:
"Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says,16Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
"Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten secretly is tasty!"17Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
But he doesn't know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.18But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
