The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--whom should I dread?1A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be confident.3Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking him in his temple.4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
For he will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
Then my head will be high above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the LORD.6And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
LORD, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me.7Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
My heart says this about you: "Seek his face." LORD, I will seek your face.8When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation.9Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD cares for me.10When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
Because of my adversaries, show me your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path.11Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Do not give me over to the will of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing violence.12Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
I am certain that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living.13I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the LORD.14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
