Job continued his discourse, saying:1Then Job continued his discourse and said,
As God lives, who has deprived me of justice, and the Almighty who has made me bitter,2"As God lives, who has taken away my right, And the Almighty, who has embittered my soul,
as long as my breath is still in me and the breath from God remains in my nostrils,3For as long as life is in me, And the breath of God is in my nostrils,
my lips will not speak unjustly, and my tongue will not utter deceit.4My lips certainly will not speak unjustly, Nor will my tongue mutter deceit.
I will never affirm that you are right. I will maintain my integrity until I die.5"Far be it from me that I should declare you right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
I will cling to my righteousness and never let it go. My conscience will not accuse me as long as I live!6"I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go. My heart does not reproach any of my days.
May my enemy be like the wicked and my opponent like the unjust.7"May my enemy be as the wicked And my opponent as the unjust.
For what hope does the godless person have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?8"For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, When God requires his life?
Will God hear his cry when distress comes on him?9"Will God hear his cry When distress comes upon him?
Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?10"Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?
I will teach you about God's power. I will not conceal what the Almighty has planned.11"I will instruct you in the power of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
All of you have seen this for yourselves, why do you keep up this empty talk?12"Behold, all of you have seen it; Why then do you act foolishly?
This is a wicked man's lot from God, the inheritance the ruthless receive from the Almighty.13"This is the portion of a wicked man from God, And the inheritance which tyrants receive from the Almighty.
Even if his children increase, they are destined for the sword; his descendants will never have enough food.14"Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; And his descendants will not be satisfied with bread.
Those who survive him will be buried by the plague, yet their widows will not weep for them.15"His survivors will be buried because of the plague, And their widows will not be able to weep.
Though he piles up silver like dust and heaps up fine clothing like clay--16"Though he piles up silver like dust And prepares garments as plentiful as the clay,
he may heap it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide up his silver.17He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.
The house he built is like a moth's cocoon or a shelter set up by a watchman.18"He has built his house like the spider's web, Or as a hut which the watchman has made.
He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, it is gone.19"He lies down rich, but never again; He opens his eyes, and it is no longer.
Terrors overtake him like a flood; a storm wind sweeps him away at night.20"Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.
An east wind picks him up, and he is gone; it carries him away from his place.21"The east wind carries him away, and he is gone, For it whirls him away from his place.
It blasts at him without mercy, while he flees desperately from its force.22"For it will hurl at him without sparing; He will surely try to flee from its power.
It claps its hands at him and scoffs at him from its place.23"Men will clap their hands at him And will hiss him from his place.
