LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured,1A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction;
and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:2How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
"I will not enter my house or get into my bed,3"Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed;
I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber4I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids,
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."5Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."
We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar.
Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.7Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool.
Rise up, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your powerful ark.8Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
May your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may your faithful people shout for joy.9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy.
For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.10For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed.
The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon: "I will set one of your offspring on your throne.11The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: "Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne.
If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever."12"If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever."
For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home:13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.
"This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it.14"This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread.15"I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.
I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy.16"Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one.17"There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed.
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious."18"His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine."
