| 1Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, | 1Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children |
| 2and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. | 2and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. |
| 3But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints. | 3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. |
| 4Obscene and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks. | 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. |
| 5For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. | 5For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a person is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. |
| 6Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God's wrath is coming on the disobedient because of these things. | 6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. |

| 15Pay careful attention, then, to how you live--not as unwise people but as wise-- | 15Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, |

| 20giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, | 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 21submitting to one another in the fear of Christ. | 21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. |
| 22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, | 22Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. |
| 23because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. | 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. |
