The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.1A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from where the sun rises to where it sets.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.2From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest.3Our God approaches and will not be silent! Consuming fire precedes Him, and a tempest rages around Him.
He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:4He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that He may judge His people:
“Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”5“Gather to Me My saints, who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah6And the heavens proclaim His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge. Selah
“Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.7“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me.8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are ever before Me.
I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds.9I have no need for a bull from your stall or goats from your pens,
For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.10for every beast of the forest is Mine—the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine.11I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are Mine.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and the fullness thereof.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?13Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High,14Sacrifice a thank offering to God, and fulfill your vows to the Most High.
and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”15Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.”
But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips?16To the wicked, however, God says, “What right have you to recite My statutes and to bear My covenant on your lips?
For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.17For you hate My instruction and cast My words behind you.
If you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you keep company with adulterers.18When you see a thief, you befriend him, and throw in your lot with adulterers.
“You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit.19You unleash your mouth for evil and unharness your tongue for deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.20You sit and malign your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.
These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.21You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But now I rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
“Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!22Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:
The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”23He who sacrifices a thank offering honors Me, and to him who rights his way, I will show the salvation of God.”
