Timothy 2
ESV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,5For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.6who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.7For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,
but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.12But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve;13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.15But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
