| 1Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD! | 1From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. |
| 2O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy! | 2Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. |
| 3If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? | 3LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? |
| 4But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. | 4But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. |
| 5I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; | 5I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. |
| 6my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. | 6I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. |
| 7O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. | 7O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. |
| 8And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. | 8He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin. |
