Holman Christian Standard BibleBerean Study Bible
LORD, God of vengeance-- God of vengeance, appear. 1O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth.
Rise up, Judge of the earth; repay the proud what they deserve. 2Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud.
LORD, how long will the wicked-- how long will the wicked gloat? 3How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult?
They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. 4They pour out arrogant words; all workers of iniquity boast.
LORD, they crush Your people; they afflict Your heritage. 5They crush Your people, O LORD; they oppress Your heritage.
They kill the widow and the foreigner and murder the fatherless. 6They kill the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless.
They say, "The LORD doesn't see it. The God of Jacob doesn't pay attention." 7They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.”
Pay attention, you stupid people! Fools, when will you be wise? 8Take notice, O senseless among the people! O fools, when will you be wise?
Can the One who shaped the ear not hear, the One who formed the eye not see? 9He who affixed the ear, can He not hear? He who formed the eye, can He not see?
The One who instructs nations, the One who teaches man knowledge-- does He not discipline? 10He who admonishes the nations, does He not discipline? He who teaches man, does He lack knowledge?
The LORD knows man's thoughts; they are meaningless. 11The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile.
LORD, happy is the man You discipline and teach from Your law 12Blessed is the man You discipline, O LORD, and teach from Your law,
to give him relief from troubled times until a pit is dug for the wicked. 13to grant him relief from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked.
The LORD will not forsake His people or abandon His heritage, 14For the LORD will not forsake His people; He will never abandon His heritage.
for justice will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. 15Surely judgment will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it.
Who stands up for me against the wicked? Who takes a stand for me against evildoers? 16Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity?
If the LORD had not been my helper, I would soon rest in the silence of death. 17Unless the LORD had been my helper, I would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.
If I say, "My foot is slipping," Your faithful love will support me, LORD. 18If I say, “My foot is slipping,” Your loving devotion, O LORD, supports me.
When I am filled with cares, Your comfort brings me joy. 19When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul.
Can a corrupt throne-- one that creates trouble by law-- become Your ally? 20Can a corrupt throne be Your ally—one devising mischief by decree?
They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. 21They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.
But the LORD is my refuge; my God is the rock of my protection. 22But the LORD has been my stronghold, and my God is my rock of refuge.
He will pay them back for their sins and destroy them for their evil. The LORD our God will destroy them. 23He will bring upon them their own iniquity and destroy them for their wickedness. The LORD our God will destroy them.
