| 1Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James: To those who are the called, loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ. | 1Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: |
| 2May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. | 2Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. |
| 3Dear friends, although I was eager to write you about the salvation we share, I found it necessary to write and exhort you to contend for the faith that was delivered to the saints once for all. | 3Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. |
| 4For some men, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into promiscuity and denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord. | 4For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 5Now I want to remind you, though you know all these things: The Lord first saved a people out of Egypt and later destroyed those who did not believe; | 5I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. |
| 6and He has kept, with eternal chains in darkness for the judgment of the great day, the angels who did not keep their own position but deserted their proper dwelling. | 6And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. |
| 7In the same way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them committed sexual immorality and practiced perversions, just as angels did, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. | 7Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. |
| 8Nevertheless, these dreamers likewise defile their flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme glorious ones. | 8Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. |
| 9Yet Michael the archangel, when he was disputing with the Devil in a debate about Moses' body, did not dare bring an abusive condemnation against him but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" | 9Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. |
| 10But these people blaspheme anything they don't understand. What they know by instinct like unreasoning animals--they destroy themselves with these things. | 10But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. |
| 11Woe to them! For they have traveled in the way of Cain, have abandoned themselves to the error of Balaam for profit, and have perished in Korah's rebellion. | 11Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. |
| 12These are the ones who are like dangerous reefs at your love feasts. They feast with you, nurturing only themselves without fear. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds; trees in late autumn--fruitless, twice dead, pulled out by the roots; | 12These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; |
| 13wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering stars for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever! | 13Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. |
| 14And Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied about them: Look! The Lord comes with thousands of His holy ones | 14And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, |
| 15to execute judgment on all and to convict them of all their ungodly acts that they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things ungodly sinners have said against Him. | 15To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. |
| 16These people are discontented grumblers, walking according to their desires; their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering people for their own advantage. | 16These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. |
| 17But you, dear friends, remember what was predicted by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; | 17But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; |
| 18they told you, "In the end time there will be scoffers walking according to their own ungodly desires." | 18How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. |
| 19These people create divisions and are unbelievers, not having the Spirit. | 19These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. |
| 20But you, dear friends, as you build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit, | 20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, |
| 21keep yourselves in the love of God, expecting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life. | 21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. |
| 22Have mercy on those who doubt; | 22And of some have compassion, making a difference: |
| 23save others by snatching them from the fire; have mercy on others but with fear, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. | 23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. |
| 24Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless and with great joy, | 24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, |
| 25to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now and forever. Amen. | 25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. |
