Manasseh was 12 years old when he became king and reigned 55 years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hephzibah.1Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Hephzibah.
He did what was evil in the LORD's sight, imitating the detestable practices of the nations that the LORD had dispossessed before the Israelites.2He did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD dispossessed before the sons of Israel.
He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed and reestablished the altars for Baal. He made an Asherah, as King Ahab of Israel had done; he also worshiped the whole heavenly host and served them. 3For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he erected altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.
He built altars in the LORD's temple, where the LORD had said, "Jerusalem is where I will put My name."4He built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem I will put My name."
He built altars to the whole heavenly host in both courtyards of the LORD's temple.5For he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
He made his son pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did a great amount of evil in the LORD's sight, provoking Him. 6He made his son pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and used divination, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD provoking Him to anger.
Manasseh set up the carved image of Asherah, which he made, in the temple that the LORD had spoken about to David and his son Solomon, "I will establish My name forever in this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.7Then he set the carved image of Asherah that he had made, in the house of which the LORD said to David and to his son Solomon, "In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to wander from the land I gave to their ancestors if only they will be careful to do all I have commanded them--the whole law that My servant Moses commanded them."8"And I will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them."
But they did not listen; Manasseh caused them to stray so that they did greater evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites. 9But they did not listen, and Manasseh seduced them to do evil more than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the sons of Israel.
The LORD spoke through His servants the prophets, saying, "10Now the LORD spoke through His servants the prophets, saying,
Since Manasseh king of Judah has committed all these detestable things--greater evil than the Amorites who preceded him had done--and by means of his idols has also caused Judah to sin, 11"Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations, having done wickedly more than all the Amorites did who were before him, and has also made Judah sin with his idols;
this is what the LORD God of Israel says: 'I am about to bring such disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that everyone who hears about it will shudder.12therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Behold, I am bringing such calamity on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle.
I will stretch over Jerusalem the measuring line used on Samaria and the mason's level used on the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem clean as one wipes a bowl--wiping it and turning it upside down. 13'I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.
I will abandon the remnant of My inheritance and hand them over to their enemies. They will become plunder and spoil to all their enemies, 14'I will abandon the remnant of My inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies, and they will become as plunder and spoil to all their enemies;
because they have done what is evil in My sight and have provoked Me from the day their ancestors came out of Egypt until today.'" 15because they have done evil in My sight, and have been provoking Me to anger since the day their fathers came from Egypt, even to this day.'"
Manasseh also shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem with it from one end to another. This was in addition to his sin that he caused Judah to commit. Consequently, they did what was evil in the LORD's sight. 16Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin with which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the LORD.
The rest of the events of Manasseh's reign, along with all his accomplishments and the sin that he committed, are written in the Historical Record of Judah's Kings.17Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh and all that he did and his sin which he committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
Manasseh rested with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his own house, the garden of Uzza. His son Amon became king in his place. 18And Manasseh slept with his fathers and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza, and Amon his son became king in his place.
Amon was 22 years old when he became king and reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshullemeth daughter of Haruz; she was from Jotbah. 19Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.
He did what was evil in the LORD's sight as his father Manasseh had done.20He did evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done.
He walked in all the ways his father had walked; he served the idols his father had served, and he worshiped them.21For he walked in all the way that his father had walked, and served the idols that his father had served and worshiped them.
He abandoned the LORD God of his ancestors and did not walk in the way of the LORD. 22So he forsook the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.
Amon's servants conspired against the king and killed him in his own house.23The servants of Amon conspired against him and killed the king in his own house.
Then the common people executed all those who had conspired against King Amon and made his son Josiah king in his place. 24Then the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place.
The rest of the events of Amon's reign, along with his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Judah's Kings. 25Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
He was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza, and his son Josiah became king in his place. 26He was buried in his grave in the garden of Uzza, and Josiah his son became king in his place.
