God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.1Then God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
The fear and terror of you will be in every living creature on the earth, every bird of the sky, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are placed under your authority.2Every living creature of the earth and every bird of the sky will be terrified of you. Everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea are under your authority.
Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.3You may eat any moving thing that lives. As I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
However, you must not eat meat with its lifeblood in it.4But you must not eat meat with its life (that is, its blood) in it.
I will require the life of every animal and every man for your life and your blood. I will require the life of each man's brother for a man's life. 5For your lifeblood I will surely exact punishment, from every living creature I will exact punishment. From each person I will exact punishment for the life of the individual since the man was his relative.
Whoever sheds man's blood, his blood will be shed by man, for God made man in His image. 6"Whoever sheds human blood, by other humans must his blood be shed; for in God's image God has made humankind."
But you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out over the earth and multiply on it." 7But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; increase abundantly on the earth and multiply on it."
Then God said to Noah and his sons with him, "8God said to Noah and his sons,
Understand that I am confirming My covenant with you and your descendants after you, 9"Look! I now confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you
and with every living creature that is with you--birds, livestock, and all wildlife of the earth that are with you--all the animals of the earth that came out of the ark. 10and with every living creature that is with you, including the birds, the domestic animals, and every living creature of the earth with you, all those that came out of the ark with you--every living creature of the earth.
I confirm My covenant with you that never again will every creature be wiped out by the waters of a flood; there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth." 11I confirm my covenant with you: Never again will all living things be wiped out by the waters of a flood; never again will a flood destroy the earth."
And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all future generations: 12And God said, "This is the guarantee of the covenant I am making with you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all subsequent generations:
I have placed My bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 13I will place my rainbow in the clouds, and it will become a guarantee of the covenant between me and the earth.
Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, 14Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
I will remember My covenant between Me and you and all the living creatures: water will never again become a flood to destroy every creature. 15then I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures of all kinds. Never again will the waters become a flood and destroy all living things.
The bow will be in the clouds, and I will look at it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all the living creatures on earth." 16When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will notice it and remember the perpetual covenant between God and all living creatures of all kinds that are on the earth."
God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant that I have confirmed between Me and every creature on earth." 17So God said to Noah, "This is the guarantee of the covenant that I am confirming between me and all living things that are on the earth."
Noah's sons who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. 18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Now Ham was the father of Canaan.)
These three were Noah's sons, and from them the whole earth was populated. 19These were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was populated.
Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard. 20Noah, a man of the soil, began to plant a vineyard.
He drank some of the wine, became drunk, and uncovered himself inside his tent. 21When he drank some of the wine, he got drunk and uncovered himself inside his tent.
Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers who were outside.
Then Shem and Japheth took a cloak and placed it over both their shoulders, and walking backward, they covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father naked. 23Shem and Japheth took the garment and placed it on their shoulders. Then they walked in backwards and covered up their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so they did not see their father's nakedness.
When Noah awoke from his drinking and learned what his youngest son had done to him, 24When Noah awoke from his drunken stupor he learned what his youngest son had done to him.
he said: Canaan will be cursed. He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers. 25So he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves he will be to his brothers."
He also said: Praise the LORD, the God of Shem; Canaan will be his slave. 26He also said, "Worthy of praise is the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem!
God will extend Japheth; he will dwell in the tents of Shem; Canaan will be his slave. 27May God enlarge Japheth's territory and numbers! May he live in the tents of Shem and may Canaan be his slave!"
Now Noah lived 350 years after the flood. 28After the flood Noah lived 350 years.
So Noah's life lasted 950 years; then he died. 29The entire lifetime of Noah was 950 years, and then he died.
