Holman Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
In the last days the mountain of the LORD's house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. Peoples will stream to it, 1In the future the LORD's Temple Mount will be the most important mountain of all; it will be more prominent than other hills. People will stream to it.
and many nations will come and say," Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us about His ways so we may walk in His paths." For instruction will go out of Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 2Many nations will come, saying, "Come on! Let's go up to the LORD's mountain, to the temple of Jacob's God, so he can teach us his commands and we can live by his laws." For Zion will be the source of instruction; the LORD's teachings will proceed from Jerusalem.
He will settle disputes among many peoples and provide arbitration for strong nations that are far away. They will beat their swords into plows, and their spears into pruning knives. Nation will not take up the sword against nation, and they will never again train for war. 3He will arbitrate between many peoples and settle disputes between many distant nations. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nations will not use weapons against other nations, and they will no longer train for war.
But each man will sit under his grapevine and under his fig tree with no one to frighten him. For the mouth of the LORD of Hosts has promised this. 4Each will sit under his own grapevine or under his own fig tree without any fear. The LORD who commands armies has decreed it.
Though all the peoples each walk in the name of their gods, we will walk in the name of Yahweh our God forever and ever. 5Though all the nations follow their respective gods, we will follow the LORD our God forever.
On that day-- this is the LORD's declaration-- I will assemble the lame and gather the scattered, those I have injured. 6"In that day," says the LORD, "I will gather the lame, and assemble the outcasts whom I injured.
I will make the lame into a remnant, those far removed into a strong nation. Then the LORD will rule over them in Mount Zion from this time on and forever. 7I will transform the lame into the nucleus of a new nation, and those far off into a mighty nation. The LORD will reign over them on Mount Zion, from that day forward and forevermore."
And you, watchtower for the flock, fortified hill of Daughter Zion, the former rule will come to you, sovereignty will come to Daughter Jerusalem. 8As for you, watchtower for the flock, fortress of Daughter Zion--your former dominion will be restored, the sovereignty that belongs to Daughter Jerusalem.
Now, why are you shouting loudly? Is there no king with you? Has your counselor perished so that anguish grips you like a woman in labor? 9Jerusalem, why are you now shouting so loudly? Has your king disappeared? Has your wise leader been destroyed? Is this why pain grips you as if you were a woman in labor?
Writhe and cry out, Daughter Zion, like a woman in labor, for now you will leave the city and camp in the open fields. You will go to Babylon; there you will be rescued; there the LORD will redeem you from the power of your enemies! 10Twist and strain, Daughter Zion, as if you were in labor! For you will leave the city and live in the open field. You will go to Babylon, but there you will be rescued. There the LORD will deliver you from the power of your enemies.
Many nations have now assembled against you; they say, "Let her be defiled, and let us feast our eyes on Zion." 11Many nations have now assembled against you. They say, "Jerusalem must be desecrated, so we can gloat over Zion!"
But they do not know the LORD's intentions or understand His plan, that He has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor. 12But they do not know what the LORD is planning; they do not understand his strategy. He has gathered them like stalks of grain to be threshed at the threshing floor.
Rise and thresh, Daughter Zion, for I will make your horns iron and your hooves bronze, so you can crush many peoples. Then you will set apart their plunder to the LORD for destruction, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth. 13"Get up and thresh, Daughter Zion! For I will give you iron horns; I will give you bronze hooves, and you will crush many nations." You will devote to the LORD the spoils you take from them, and dedicate their wealth to the sovereign Ruler of the whole earth.
