Psalm 56
HCSB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
For the choir director: according to "A Silent Dove Far Away." A Davidic Miktam. When the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, God, for man tramples me; he fights and oppresses me all day long. 1For the director of music. To the tune of "A Dove on Distant Oaks." Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack.
My adversaries trample me all day, for many arrogantly fight against me. 2My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me.
When I am afraid, I will trust in You. 3When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me? 4In God, whose word I praise-- in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
They twist my words all day long; all their thoughts against me are evil. 5All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin.
They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps while they wait to take my life. 6They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life.
Will they escape in spite of such sin? God, bring down the nations in wrath. 7Because of their wickedness do not let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down.
You Yourself have recorded my wanderings. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your records? 8Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll -- are they not in your record?
Then my enemies will retreat on the day when I call. This I know: God is for me. 9Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.
In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, 10In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise--
in God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me? 11in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?
I am obligated by vows to You, God; I will make my thank offerings to You. 12I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you.
For You delivered me from death, even my feet from stumbling, to walk before God in the light of life. 13For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
