Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy: To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Encouragement during Persecution
We must always thank God for you, brothers. This is right, since your faith is flourishing and the love each one of you has for one another is increasing.3Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.
Therefore, we ourselves boast about you among God's churches--about your endurance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you endure. 4We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.
It is a clear evidence of God's righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God's kingdom, for which you also are suffering,5And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering.
since it is righteous for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you6In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.
and to reward with rest you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His powerful angels, 7And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels,
taking vengeance with flaming fire on those who don't know God and on those who don't obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.8in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.
These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord's presence and from His glorious strength9They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.
in that day when He comes to be glorified by His saints and to be admired by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed. 10When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.
And in view of this, we always pray for you that our God will consider you worthy of His calling, and will, by His power, fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith,11So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.
so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified by you, and you by Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 12Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
