God, the LORD, has spoken. He has summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting place.1A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from where the sun rises to where it sets.
From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined forth.2From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God has appeared and he has not been silent; a devouring fire blazed before him, and a mighty storm swirled around him.3Our God approaches and will not be silent! Consuming fire precedes Him, and a tempest rages around Him.
He summoned the heavens above and the earth below, to sit in judgment on his people.4He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that He may judge His people:
"Assemble before me, my saints, who have entered into my covenant by sacrifice."5“Gather to Me My saints, who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
The heavens revealed his justice, for God is himself the judge. Interlude6And the heavens proclaim His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge. Selah
"Listen, my people, for I am making a pronouncement: Israel, I, God, your God, am testifying against you.7“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
I do not rebuke you because of your sacrifices; indeed, your burnt offerings are continuously before me.8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are ever before Me.
I will no longer accept a sacrificial bull from your household; nor goats from your pens.9I have no need for a bull from your stall or goats from your pens,
Indeed, every animal of the forest is mine, even the cattle on a thousand hills.10for every beast of the forest is Mine—the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds in the mountains; indeed, everything that moves in the field is mine.11I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are Mine.
"If I were hungry, I would not tell you; for the world is mine along with everything in it.12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and the fullness thereof.
Why should I eat the flesh of oxen or drink the blood of goats?13Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Offer to God a thanksgiving praise; pay your vows to the Most High.14Sacrifice a thank offering to God, and fulfill your vows to the Most High.
Call on me in the day of distress; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."15Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.”
As for the wicked, God says, "How dare you recite my statutes or speak about my covenant with your lips!16To the wicked, however, God says, “What right have you to recite My statutes and to bear My covenant on your lips?
You hate instruction and toss my words behind you.17For you hate My instruction and cast My words behind you.
When you see a thief, you befriend him, and you keep company with adulterers.18When you see a thief, you befriend him, and throw in your lot with adulterers.
You give your mouth free reign for evil, and your tongue devises deceit.19You unleash your mouth for evil and unharness your tongue for deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.20You sit and malign your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.
These things you did, and I kept silent, because you assumed that I was like you. But now I am going to rebuke you, and I will set forth my case before your very own eyes."21You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But now I rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Consider this, you who have forgotten God— Otherwise, I will tear you in pieces and there will be no deliverer:22Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:
Whoever offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me, and I will reveal the salvation of God to whomever continues in my way." 23He who sacrifices a thank offering honors Me, and to him who rights his way, I will show the salvation of God.”
