ISV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionEnglish Standard Version
God blessed Noah and his sons and ordered them, "Be productive, multiply, and fill the earth. 1And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
All the living creatures of the earth will be filled with fear and terror of you from now on, including all the creatures that fly in the sky, everything that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the ocean. They've been assigned to live under your dominion. 2The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered.
"Every living, moving creature will be food for you. Just as I gave you green plants before, so now you have everything. 3Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.
However, you are not to eat meat with its life—that is, its blood—in it! 4But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
Also, I will certainly demand an accounting regarding bloodshed, from every animal and from every human being. I'll demand an accounting from every human being for the life of another human being.5And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.
"Whoever sheds human blood, by a human his own blood is to be shed; because God made human beings in his own image.6“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
Now as for you, be productive and multiply; spread out over the land and multiply throughout it."7And you, be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it.”
Later, God told Noah and his sons, 8Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him,
"Pay attention! I'm establishing my covenant with you and with your descendants after you, 9“Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you,
and with every living creature that is with you—the flying creatures, the livestock, and all the wildlife of the earth that are with you—all the earth's animals that came out of the ark. 10and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth.
I will establish my covenant with you: No living beings will ever be cut off again by flood waters, and there will never again be a flood that destroys the earth."11I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
God also said, "Here's the symbol that represents the covenant that I'm making between me and you and every living being with you, for all future generations: 12And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations:
I've set my rainbow in the sky to symbolize the covenant between me and the earth. 13I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow becomes visible in the clouds, 14When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds,
I'll remember my covenant between me and you and every living creature, so that water will never again become a flood to destroy all living beings. 15I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will observe it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living beings on the earth."16When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
God also told Noah, "This is the symbol of the covenant that I've established between me and everything that lives on the earth."17God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
Noah's sons who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham later fathered Canaan.) 18The sons of Noah who went forth from the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)
These three were Noah's sons, and from these men the whole earth was repopulated.19These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the people of the whole earth were dispersed.
Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant and farm a vineyard. 20Noah began to be a man of the soil, and he planted a vineyard.
He drank some of the wine, got drunk, and lay down naked right in the middle of his tent. 21He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent.
Ham, who fathered Canaan, saw his father's genitals and told his two brothers outside. 22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside.
Then Shem and Japheth took their father's cloak, laid it across both their shoulders, and walking backwards, they both covered their father's genitals. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father's genitals. 23Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned backward, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.
When Noah sobered up and learned what his youngest son had done to him, 24When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him,
he said, "Canaan is cursed! He will be the lowest of slaves to his relatives."25he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”
He also said, "Blessed be the LORD God of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave.26He also said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem; and let Canaan be his servant.
May God make room for Japheth; may God live in Shem's tents, and may Canaan serve him."27May God enlarge Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant.”
Noah lived 350 years after the flood. 28After the flood Noah lived 350 years.
After Noah had lived a total of 950 years, he died.29All the days of Noah were 950 years, and he died.
