Then I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. 1I looked again, and there was a man with a measuring line in his hand.
I asked, "Where are you going?" He responded, "To measure Jerusalem in order to determine its width and length."2I asked, "Where are you going?" He replied, "To measure Jerusalem in order to determine its width and its length."
Look! That angel who was talking to me left, and another angel came forward to meet him. 3At this point the angelic messenger who spoke to me went out, and another messenger came to meet him
That other angel told him, "Run and tell that young man: 'Jerusalem will be an inhabited city without walls due to the number of people and livestock within it. 4and said to him, "Hurry, speak to this young man as follows: 'Jerusalem will no longer be enclosed by walls because of the multitude of people and animals there.
I myself will be an encircling rampart of fire,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be the glory in her midst.'5But I (the LORD says) will be a wall of fire surrounding Jerusalem and the source of glory in her midst.'"
"'Come now! Come now! Flee from the land of the north,' declares the LORD, 'for I have dispersed you like the four winds of heaven,' declares the LORD.6"You there! Flee from the northland!" says the LORD, "for like the four winds of heaven I have scattered you," says the LORD.
"'Come now, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the residents of Babylon. 7"Escape, Zion, you who live among the Babylonians!"
For this is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "In pursuit of glory I was sent to the nations who plundered you, because whoever injures you injures the pupil of my eye. 8For the LORD who rules over all says to me that for his own glory he has sent me to the nations that plundered you--for anyone who touches you touches the pupil of his eye.
And look, I will shake my fist over them, and they will become plunder for their former slaves. And you will know that the LORD of the Heavenly Armies sent me."'"9"I am about to punish them in such a way," he says, "that they will be looted by their own slaves." Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me.
"Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! Take note! I am coming to live in your midst," declares the LORD. 10"Sing out and be happy, Zion my daughter! For look, I have come; I will settle in your midst," says the LORD.
"Many nations will cling to the LORD at that time and will become my people. I will live in your midst, and you will know that the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has sent me to you. 11"Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on the day of salvation, and they will also be my people. Indeed, I will settle in the midst of you all." Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you.
The LORD will take possession of Judah as his own property in the Holy Land—and he will choose Jerusalem again. 12The LORD will take possession of Judah as his portion in the holy land and he will choose Jerusalem once again.
Be silent, every living thing, in the presence of the LORD, because he is emerging from his Holy Place."13Be silent in the LORD's presence, all people everywhere, for he is being moved to action in his holy dwelling place.
