Deuteronomy 11
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
"Therefore love the LORD your God and be very careful to keep his injunctions, statutes, ordinances, and commands all the time.1“You must love the LORD your God and always obey his requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands.
Keep in mind today that I am not speaking to your children, who neither were aware of nor did they witness the discipline of the LORD your God, that is, his great and far-reaching power, 2Keep in mind that I am not talking now to your children, who have never experienced the discipline of the LORD your God or seen his greatness and his strong hand and powerful arm.
including: the signs and works that he did within Egypt to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and to all his land; 3They didn’t see the miraculous signs and wonders he performed in Egypt against Pharaoh and all his land.
what he did to the Egyptian army, its horses and chariots, when he caused the waters of the Reed Sea to engulf them as they pursued you; how the LORD destroyed them, even to this day; 4They didn’t see what the LORD did to the armies of Egypt and to their horses and chariots—how he drowned them in the Red Sea as they were chasing you. He destroyed them, and they have not recovered to this very day!
what he did for you in the desert until you came to this place; 5“Your children didn’t see how the LORD cared for you in the wilderness until you arrived here.
and what he did to Eliab's sons Dathan and Abiram, descendants of Reuben, when the ground opened up and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing belonging to them in the full sight of Israel. 6They didn’t see what he did to Dathan and Abiram (the sons of Eliab, a descendant of Reuben) when the earth opened its mouth in the Israelite camp and swallowed them, along with their households and tents and every living thing that belonged to them.
Your very own eyes saw all the great things that the LORD did."7But you have seen the LORD perform all these mighty deeds with your own eyes! The Blessings of Obedience
"Keep all the commands that I'm giving you today, so you can be strong enough to enter and possess the land that you are crossing over to inherit 8“Therefore, be careful to obey every command I am giving you today, so you may have strength to go in and take over the land you are about to enter.
and so you'll live long in the land that the LORD your God promised by an oath to give your ancestors and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. 9If you obey, you will enjoy a long life in the land the LORD swore to give to your ancestors and to you, their descendants—a land flowing with milk and honey!
For the land that you are about to enter to inherit isn't like the land of Egypt that you just left, where you plant a seed and irrigate it with your feet like a vegetable garden. 10For the land you are about to enter and take over is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, where you planted your seed and made irrigation ditches with your foot as in a vegetable garden.
Instead, the land that you are crossing over to inherit is a land of hills and valleys that drinks water supplied by rain from heaven, 11Rather, the land you will soon take over is a land of hills and valleys with plenty of rain—
a land about which the LORD your God is always concerned, because the eyes of the LORD are continuously on it throughout the entire year." 12a land that the LORD your God cares for. He watches over it through each season of the year!
"If you carefully observe the commands that I'm giving you today, to love the LORD your God and serve him with all your heart and soul, 13“If you carefully obey the commands I am giving you today, and if you love the LORD your God and serve him with all your heart and soul,
then he will send rain on the land in its season—the early and latter rains —then you'll gather grain, new wine, and oil. 14then he will send the rains in their proper seasons—the early and late rains—so you can bring in your harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil.
He will provide grass on the fields for your livestock, and you'll eat and be satisfied. 15He will give you lush pastureland for your livestock, and you yourselves will have all you want to eat.
Be careful! Otherwise, your hearts will deceive you and you will turn away to serve other gods and worship them. 16“But be careful. Don’t let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the LORD and serve and worship other gods.
The wrath of God will burn against you so that he will restrain the heavens and it won't rain. The ground won't yield its produce and you'll be swiftly destroyed from the good land that the LORD is about to give you. 17If you do, the LORD’s anger will burn against you. He will shut up the sky and hold back the rain, and the ground will fail to produce its harvests. Then you will quickly die in that good land the LORD is giving you.
Take these commands to heart and keep them in mind, tying them as reminders on your arm and as bands on your forehead. 18“So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.
Teach them to your children, talking about them while sitting in your house, walking on the road, or when you are about to lie down or get up. 19Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
Also write them upon the doorposts of your house and gates20Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
so that you and your children may live long on the land that the LORD promised to give your ancestors—as long as the sky remains above the earth."21so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.
"If you carefully observe all of these commands that I'm giving you to do—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him, 22“Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the LORD your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him.
then the LORD will dispossess all these nations before you and you'll dispossess nations that are even greater and stronger than you. 23Then the LORD will drive out all the nations ahead of you, though they are much greater and stronger than you, and you will take over their land.
Every place upon which the soles of your feet tread will be yours as boundaries—from the desert to Lebanon and from the River (that is, from the Euphrates) to the Mediterranean Sea. 24Wherever you set foot, that land will be yours. Your frontiers will stretch from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north, and from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.
No one will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God will instill terror and fear of you throughout the entire land wherever you go, just as he promised you. 25No one will be able to stand against you, for the LORD your God will cause the people to fear and dread you, as he promised, wherever you go in the whole land.
Look! I'm about to grant you a blessing and a curse— 26“Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse!
a blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I'm giving you today, 27You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today.
or a curse if you don't obey the commands of the LORD your God, by turning from the way that I'm commanding you today and following other gods whom you have not known."28But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the LORD your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before.
"When the LORD brings you to the land that you are about to enter to inherit, repeat the blessings on Mount Gerizim and the curses on Mount Ebal. 29“When the LORD your God brings you into the land and helps you take possession of it, you must pronounce the blessing at Mount Gerizim and the curse at Mount Ebal.
They're across the Jordan River to the west, aren't they, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the Oak of Moreh? 30(These two mountains are west of the Jordan River in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Jordan Valley, near the town of Gilgal, not far from the oaks of Moreh.)
For you are about to cross the Jordan River to go in and possess the land that the LORD your God is about to give you to inherit and live in. 31For you are about to cross the Jordan River to take over the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you take that land and are living in it,
Be careful to obey all the statutes and ordinances that I'm placing before you today."32you must be careful to obey all the decrees and regulations I am giving you today.
