Proverbs 9
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars.1Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns.
She has prepared her food, she has spiced her wine, and she also has set her dining table.2She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table.
She has sent out her young women, while calling out from the heights of the city,3She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city.
"Let whoever is naïve, turn in here." To anyone lacking sense, she says,4“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,
"Come! Eat my food, and drink the wine that I have mixed.5“Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.
Leave your naïve ways, and live. Walk in the path of understanding."6Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”
Whoever corrects a mocker invites only insult, and whoever rebukes the wicked will himself become stained.7Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.
Don't rebuke a mocker or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise person, and he will love you.8So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you.
Counsel a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will add to his learning.9Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.
The fear of the LORD is where wisdom begins, and knowing holiness demonstrates understanding.10Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
For because of me you will live a long life, and years will be added to your life.11Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life.
If you are wise, your wisdom will assist you. If you mock, you alone will be held responsible.12If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer. Folly Calls for a Hearing
The foolish woman is loud, undisciplined, and without knowledge.13The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it.
She sits at the entrance of her house, on a seat high above the city.14She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city.
She calls out to those passing by on the road, who are minding their own business, 15She calls out to men going by who are minding their own business.
"Whoever is naïve, turn in here!" And to anyone lacking sense, she says,16“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,
"Stolen waters are sweet, and food eaten in secret is delicious."17“Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!”
But he does not realize that the dead lurk there, and her invited guests wind up in the depths of Sheol. 18But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.
