But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine.
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good.
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
