Isaiah 27
KJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleEnglish Standard Version
In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.1In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.
In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.2In that day, “A pleasant vineyard, sing of it!
I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.3I, the LORD, am its keeper; every moment I water it. Lest anyone punish it, I keep it night and day;
Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.4I have no wrath. Would that I had thorns and briers to battle! I would march against them, I would burn them up together.
Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.5Or let them lay hold of my protection, let them make peace with me, let them make peace with me.”
He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.6In days to come Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit.
Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?7Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?
In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.8Measure by measure, by exile you contended with them; he removed them with his fierce breath in the day of the east wind.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.9Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing.
Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.10For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness; there the calf grazes; there it lies down and strips its branches.
When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.11When its boughs are dry, they are broken; women come and make a fire of them. For this is a people without discernment; therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them; he who formed them will show them no favor.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.12In that day from the river Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt the LORD will thresh out the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.13And in that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
