Isaiah 27
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.1In that day the LORD will take his terrible, swift sword and punish Leviathan, the swiftly moving serpent, the coiling, writhing serpent. He will kill the dragon of the sea.
In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.2“In that day, sing about the fruitful vineyard.
I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.3I, the LORD, will watch over it, watering it carefully. Day and night I will watch so no one can harm it.
Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.4My anger will be gone. If I find briers and thorns growing, I will attack them; I will burn them up—
Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.5unless they turn to me for help. Let them make peace with me; yes, let them make peace with me.”
He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.6The time is coming when Jacob’s descendants will take root. Israel will bud and blossom and fill the whole earth with fruit!
Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?7Has the LORD struck Israel as he struck her enemies? Has he punished her as he punished them?
In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.8No, but he exiled Israel to call her to account. She was exiled from her land as though blown away in a storm from the east.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.9The LORD did this to purge Israel’s wickedness, to take away all her sin. As a result, all the pagan altars will be crushed to dust. No Asherah pole or pagan shrine will be left standing.
Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.10The fortified towns will be silent and empty, the houses abandoned, the streets overgrown with weeds. Calves will graze there, chewing on twigs and branches.
When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.11The people are like the dead branches of a tree, broken off and used for kindling beneath the cooking pots. Israel is a foolish and stupid nation, for its people have turned away from God. Therefore, the one who made them will show them no pity or mercy.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.12Yet the time will come when the LORD will gather them together like handpicked grain. One by one he will gather them—from the Euphrates River in the east to the Brook of Egypt in the west.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.13In that day the great trumpet will sound. Many who were dying in exile in Assyria and Egypt will return to Jerusalem to worship the LORD on his holy mountain.
