Job 18
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,1Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.2“How long before you stop talking? Speak sense if you want us to answer!
Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?3Do you think we are mere animals? Do you think we are stupid?
He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?4You may tear out your hair in anger, but will that destroy the earth? Will it make the rocks tremble?
Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.5“Surely the light of the wicked will be snuffed out. The sparks of their fire will not glow.
The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.6The light in their tent will grow dark. The lamp hanging above them will be quenched.
The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.7The confident stride of the wicked will be shortened. Their own schemes will be their downfall.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.8The wicked walk into a net. They fall into a pit.
The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.9A trap grabs them by the heel. A snare holds them tight.
The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.10A noose lies hidden on the ground. A rope is stretched across their path.
Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.11“Terrors surround the wicked and trouble them at every step.
His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.12Hunger depletes their strength, and calamity waits for them to stumble.
It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.13Disease eats their skin; death devours their limbs.
His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.14They are torn from the security of their homes and are brought down to the king of terrors.
It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.15The homes of the wicked will burn down; burning sulfur rains on their houses.
His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.16Their roots will dry up, and their branches will wither.
His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.17All memory of their existence will fade from the earth; no one will remember their names.
He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.18They will be thrust from light into darkness, driven from the world.
He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.19They will have neither children nor grandchildren, nor any survivor in the place where they lived.
They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.20People in the west are appalled at their fate; people in the east are horrified.
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.21They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’”
