Job 14
NASB Parallel BSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Berean Study Bible
"Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil.1“Man, who is born of woman, is short of days and full of trouble.
"Like a flower he comes forth and withers. He also flees like a shadow and does not remain.2Like a flower, he comes forth, then withers away; like a fleeting shadow, he does not endure.
"You also open Your eyes on him And bring him into judgment with Yourself.3Do You open Your eyes to one like this? Will You bring him into judgment before You?
"Who can make the clean out of the unclean? No one!4Who can bring out clean from unclean? No one!
"Since his days are determined, The number of his months is with You; And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass.5Since his days are determined and the number of his months is with You, and since You have set limits that he cannot exceed,
"Turn Your gaze from him that he may rest, Until he fulfills his day like a hired man.6look away from him and let him rest, so he can enjoy his day as a hired hand.
"For there is hope for a tree, When it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And its shoots will not fail.7For there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its tender shoots will not fail.
"Though its roots grow old in the ground And its stump dies in the dry soil,8If its roots grow old in the ground and its stump dies in the soil,
At the scent of water it will flourish And put forth sprigs like a plant.9at the scent of water it will bud and put forth twigs like a sapling.
"But man dies and lies prostrate. Man expires, and where is he?10But a man dies and is laid low; he breathes his last, and where is he?
"As water evaporates from the sea, And a river becomes parched and dried up,11As water disappears from the sea and a river becomes parched and dry,
So man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no longer, He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.12so a man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no more, he will not be awakened or roused from sleep.
"Oh that You would hide me in Sheol, That You would conceal me until Your wrath returns to You, That You would set a limit for me and remember me!13If only You would hide me in Sheol and conceal me until Your anger has passed! If only You would appoint a time for me and then remember me!
"If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my struggle I will wait Until my change comes.14When a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, until my renewal comes.
"You will call, and I will answer You; You will long for the work of Your hands.15You will call, and I will answer; You will desire the work of Your hands.
"For now You number my steps, You do not observe my sin.16For then You would count my steps, but would not keep track of my sin.
"My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And You wrap up my iniquity.17My transgression would be sealed in a bag, and You would cover over my iniquity.
"But the falling mountain crumbles away, And the rock moves from its place;18But as a mountain erodes and crumbles and a rock is dislodged from its place,
Water wears away stones, Its torrents wash away the dust of the earth; So You destroy man's hope.19as water wears away the stones and torrents wash away the soil, so You destroy a man’s hope.
"You forever overpower him and he departs; You change his appearance and send him away.20You forever overpower him, and he passes on; You change his countenance and send him away.
"His sons achieve honor, but he does not know it; Or they become insignificant, but he does not perceive it.21If his sons receive honor, he does not know it; if they are brought low, he is unaware.
"But his body pains him, And he mourns only for himself."22He feels only the pain of his own body and mourns only for himself.”
