Job 14
NASB Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
"Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil.1"Man, born of woman, lives but a few days, and they are full of trouble.
"Like a flower he comes forth and withers. He also flees like a shadow and does not remain.2He grows up like a flower and then withers away; he flees like a shadow, and does not remain.
"You also open Your eyes on him And bring him into judgment with Yourself.3Do you fix your eye on such a one? And do you bring me before you for judgment?
"Who can make the clean out of the unclean? No one!4Who can make a clean thing come from an unclean? No one!
"Since his days are determined, The number of his months is with You; And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass.5Since man's days are determined, the number of his months is under your control; you have set his limit and he cannot pass it.
"Turn Your gaze from him that he may rest, Until he fulfills his day like a hired man.6Look away from him and let him desist, until he fulfills his time like a hired man.
"For there is hope for a tree, When it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And its shoots will not fail.7"But there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.
"Though its roots grow old in the ground And its stump dies in the dry soil,8Although its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump begins to die in the soil,
At the scent of water it will flourish And put forth sprigs like a plant.9at the scent of water it will flourish and put forth shoots like a new plant.
"But man dies and lies prostrate. Man expires, and where is he?10But man dies and is powerless; he expires--and where is he?
"As water evaporates from the sea, And a river becomes parched and dried up,11As water disappears from the sea, or a river drains away and dries up,
So man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no longer, He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.12so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor arise from their sleep.
"Oh that You would hide me in Sheol, That You would conceal me until Your wrath returns to You, That You would set a limit for me and remember me!13"O that you would hide me in Sheol, and conceal me till your anger has passed! O that you would set me a time and then remember me!
"If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my struggle I will wait Until my change comes.14If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait until my release comes.
"You will call, and I will answer You; You will long for the work of Your hands.15You will call and I--I will answer you; you will long for the creature you have made.
"For now You number my steps, You do not observe my sin.16"Surely now you count my steps; then you would not mark my sin.
"My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And You wrap up my iniquity.17My offenses would be sealed up in a bag; you would cover over my sin.
"But the falling mountain crumbles away, And the rock moves from its place;18But as a mountain falls away and crumbles, and as a rock will be removed from its place,
Water wears away stones, Its torrents wash away the dust of the earth; So You destroy man's hope.19as water wears away stones, and torrents wash away the soil, so you destroy man's hope.
"You forever overpower him and he departs; You change his appearance and send him away.20You overpower him once for all, and he departs; you change his appearance and send him away.
"His sons achieve honor, but he does not know it; Or they become insignificant, but he does not perceive it.21If his sons are honored, he does not know it; if they are brought low, he does not see it.
"But his body pains him, And he mourns only for himself."22Only his flesh has pain for himself, and he mourns for himself."
