New American Standard Bible 1995Berean Study Bible
A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.1Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but an accurate weight is His delight.
When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.2When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom.
The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.3The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the faithless destroys them.
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.4Riches are worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness brings deliverance from death.
The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.5The righteousness of the blameless directs their path, but the wicked fall by their own wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed.6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the faithless are trapped by their own desires.
When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of strong men perishes.7When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes, and the hope of his strength vanishes.
The righteous is delivered from trouble, But the wicked takes his place.8The righteous man is delivered from trouble; in his place the wicked man goes in.
With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.9With his mouth the ungodly man destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued.
When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting.10When the righteous thrive, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.11By the blessing of the upright a city is built up, but by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.
He who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a man of understanding keeps silent.12Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks judgment, but a man of understanding remains silent.
He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is trustworthy conceals a matter.13A gossip reveals a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.14For lack of guidance, a nation falls, but with many counselors comes deliverance.
He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it, But he who hates being a guarantor is secure.15He who puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but the one who hates indebtedness is secure.
A gracious woman attains honor, And ruthless men attain riches.16A gracious woman attains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
The merciful man does himself good, But the cruel man does himself harm.17A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
The wicked earns deceptive wages, But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.18The wicked man earns an empty wage, but he who sows righteousness reaps a true reward.
He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life, And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death.19Genuine righteousness leads to life, but the pursuit of evil brings death.
The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight.20The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, but the blameless in their walk are His delight.
Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.21Be assured that the wicked will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape.
As a ring of gold in a swine's snout So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.22Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.
The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.23The desire of the righteous leads only to good, but the hope of the wicked brings wrath.
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.24One gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor.
The generous man will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.25A generous soul will prosper, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.26The people will curse the hoarder of grain, but blessing will crown the one who sells it.
He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.27He who searches out good finds favor, but evil will come to him who seeks it.
He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.28He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like foliage.
He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted.29He who brings trouble on his house will inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who is wise wins souls.30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
If the righteous will be rewarded in the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner!31If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
