Hebrews 5
NASB Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New American Standard Bible 1995Christian Standard Bible
For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;1For every high priest taken from among men is appointed in matters pertaining to God for the people, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness;2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he is also clothed with weakness.
and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself.3Because of this, he must make an offering for his own sins as well as for the people.
And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was.4No one takes this honor on himself; instead, a person is called by God, just as Aaron was.
So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU";5In the same way, Christ did not exalt himself to become a high priest, but God who said to him, You are my Son; today I have become your Father,
just as He says also in another passage, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."6also says in another place, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.7During his earthly life, he offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.8Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered.
And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,9After he was perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,
being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.10and he was declared by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.11We have a great deal to say about this, and it is difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.12Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God's revelation again. You need milk, not solid food.
For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.13Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant.
But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.14But solid food is for the mature--for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.
