NASB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New American Standard Bible 1995International Standard Version
When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,1When they came near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples on ahead and
saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me.2told them, "Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied up and a colt with it. Untie them, and bring them to me.
"If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them."3If anyone says anything to you, tell him, 'The Lord needs them,' and that person will send them at once."
This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:4Now this happened to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet when he said,
"SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.'"5"Tell the daughter of Zion, 'Look, your king is coming to you! He is humble and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt of a donkey.'"
The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them,6So the disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.
and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats.7They brought the donkey and the colt and put their coats on them, and he sat upon them.
Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road.8Many people in the crowd spread their own coats on the road, while others began cutting down branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.
The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest!"9Both the crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed him kept shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! How blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?"10When he came into Jerusalem, the whole city was trembling with excitement. The people were asking, "Who is this?"
And the crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee."11The crowds kept saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, the man from Nazareth in Galilee."
And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves.12Then Jesus went into the Temple, threw out everyone who was selling and buying in the Temple, and overturned the moneychangers' tables and the chairs of those who sold doves.
And He said to them, "It is written, 'MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER'; but you are making it a ROBBERS' DEN."13He told them, "It is written, 'My house is to be called a house of prayer,' but you are turning it into a hideout for bandits!"
And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.14Blind and lame people came to him in the Temple, and he healed them.
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they became indignant15But when the high priests and the scribes saw the amazing things that he had done and the children shouting in the Temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they became furious
and said to Him, "Do You hear what these children are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes; have you never read, 'OUT OF THE MOUTH OF INFANTS AND NURSING BABIES YOU HAVE PREPARED PRAISE FOR YOURSELF'?"16and asked him, "Do you hear what these people are saying?" Jesus told them, "Yes! Haven't you ever read, 'From the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have created praise'?"
And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.17Then he left them and went out of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.
Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.18In the morning, as Jesus was returning to the city, he became hungry.
Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He said to it, "No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you." And at once the fig tree withered.19Seeing a fig tree by the roadside, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He told it, "May fruit never come from you again!" And immediately the fig tree dried up.
Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, "How did the fig tree wither all at once?"20When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?" they asked.
And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it will happen.21Jesus answered them, "I tell all of you with certainty, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you be able to do what has been done to the fig tree, but you will also say to this mountain, 'Be removed and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen.
"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."22You will receive whatever you ask for in prayer, if you believe."
When He entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?"23Then Jesus went into the Temple. While he was teaching, the high priests and the elders of the people came to him and asked, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"
Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.24Jesus answered them, "I, too, will ask you one question. If you answer it for me, I will also tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
"The baptism of John was from what source, from heaven or from men?" And they began reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?'25Where did John's authority to baptize come from? From heaven or from humans?" They began discussing this among themselves: "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask us, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'
"But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the people; for they all regard John as a prophet."26But if we say, 'From humans,' we are afraid of the crowd, because everyone regards John as a prophet."
And answering Jesus, they said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.27So they told Jesus, "We don't know." He in turn told them, "Then I won't tell you by what authority I am doing these things."
"But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.'28"But what do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.'
"And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went.29His son replied, 'I don't want to,' but later he changed his mind and went.
"The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go.30Then the father went to the other son and told him the same thing. He replied, 'I will, sir,' but he didn't go.
"Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you.31Which of the two did the father's will?" They answered, "The first one." Jesus told them, "I tell all of you with certainty, tax collectors and prostitutes will get into God's kingdom ahead of you!
"For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.32John came to you living a righteous life, and you didn't believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. But even when you saw that, you didn't change your minds at last and believe him."
"Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who PLANTED A VINEYARD AND PUT A WALL AROUND IT AND DUG A WINE PRESS IN IT, AND BUILT A TOWER, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey.33"Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a wall around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went abroad.
"When the harvest time approached, he sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his produce.34When harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenant farmers to collect his produce.
"The vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, and killed another, and stoned a third.35But the farmers took his servants and beat one, killed another, and attacked another with stones.
"Again he sent another group of slaves larger than the first; and they did the same thing to them.36Again, he sent other servants to them, a greater number than the first, but the tenant farmers treated them the same way.
"But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'37Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, 'They will respect my son.'
"But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.'38But when the tenant farmers saw his son, they told one another, 'This is the heir. Come on, let's kill him and get his inheritance!'
"They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.39So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
"Therefore when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?"40Now when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those farmers?"
They said to Him, "He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons."41They told him, "He will put those horrible men to a horrible death. Then he will lease the vineyard to other farmers who will give him his produce at harvest time."
Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE LORD, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES '?42Jesus asked them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing, and it is amazing in our eyes.'?
"Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people, producing the fruit of it.43That is why I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce fruit for it.
"And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust."44The person who falls over this stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush anyone on whom it falls."
When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them.45When the high priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was talking about them.
When they sought to seize Him, they feared the people, because they considered Him to be a prophet.46Although they wanted to arrest him, they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet.
