Job 17
NASB Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
"My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.1My spirit is broken, my days have faded out, the grave awaits me.
"Surely mockers are with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.2Surely mockery is with me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility.
"Lay down, now, a pledge for me with Yourself; Who is there that will be my guarantor?3Make then my pledge with you. Who else will put up security for me?
"For You have kept their heart from understanding, Therefore You will not exalt them.4Because you have closed their minds to understanding, therefore you will not exalt them.
"He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil, The eyes of his children also will languish.5If a man denounces his friends for personal gain, the eyes of his children will fail.
"But He has made me a byword of the people, And I am one at whom men spit.6He has made me a byword to people, I am the one in whose face they spit.
"My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.7My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow.
"The upright will be appalled at this, And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.8Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent man is troubled with the godless.
"Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.9But the righteous man holds to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger.
"But come again all of you now, For I do not find a wise man among you.10"But turn, all of you, and come now! I will not find a wise man among you.
"My days are past, my plans are torn apart, Even the wishes of my heart.11My days have passed, my plans are shattered, even the desires of my heart.
"They make night into day, saying, 'The light is near,' in the presence of darkness.12These men change night into day; they say, 'The light is near in the face of darkness.'
"If I look for Sheol as my home, I make my bed in the darkness;13If I hope for the grave to be my home, if I spread out my bed in darkness,
If I call to the pit, 'You are my father'; To the worm, 'my mother and my sister';14If I cry to corruption, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'My Mother,' or 'My sister,'
Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope?15where then is my hope? And my hope, who sees it?
"Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?"16Will it go down to the barred gates of death? Will we descend together into the dust?"
