New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God, the LORD, has spoken, And summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.1A psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth.2From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
May our God come and not keep silence; Fire devours before Him, And it is very tempestuous around Him.3Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
He summons the heavens above, And the earth, to judge His people:4He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
"Gather My godly ones to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice."5"Gather to me this consecrated people, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
And the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is judge. Selah.6And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice.
"Hear, O My people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you; I am God, your God.7"Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God.
"I do not reprove you for your sacrifices, And your burnt offerings are continually before Me.8I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
"I shall take no young bull out of your house Nor male goats out of your folds.9I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
"For every beast of the forest is Mine, The cattle on a thousand hills.10for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
"I know every bird of the mountains, And everything that moves in the field is Mine.11I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine.
"If I were hungry I would not tell you, For the world is Mine, and all it contains.12If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
"Shall I eat the flesh of bulls Or drink the blood of male goats?13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
"Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving And pay your vows to the Most High;14"Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me."15and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to tell of My statutes And to take My covenant in your mouth?16But to the wicked person, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
"For you hate discipline, And you cast My words behind you.17You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
"When you see a thief, you are pleased with him, And you associate with adulterers.18When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers.
"You let your mouth loose in evil And your tongue frames deceit.19You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.
"You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother's son.20You sit and testify against your brother and slander your own mother's son.
"These things you have done and I kept silence; You thought that I was just like you; I will reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.21When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.
"Now consider this, you who forget God, Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver.22"Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:
"He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me; And to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God."23Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation."
